William Robert “Papaw” Knight, Jr., 95, widower of Julia Dobie Knight, passed away on Tuesday December 24, 2013. Robert was born in Runge, Texas to W. R. Knight, Sr. and Dorothy Marshall Knight, on April 2, 1918 and was a long time resident of Odem, Texas. Throughout his life, Robert was a joyful son, brother, grandfather and friend to all who came to know him. He served his country in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific region. He retired from CITGO in 1983, after which he became a full-time rancher. He will be remembered most for his love of chatting about anything under the sun, for his unique style of interaction and sharp wit, as well as for his strong will and determination in his work as a farmer, rancher and petroleum engineer. Always a lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting skeet, running dogs, or simply taking a walk or a drive to “check out the range”. Throughout his life, he touched and affected many people in many ways. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sisters, Ida Mae Seltzer and Glenna Masters, his brother, Marshall Knight, and his son, James Robert Knight. He is survived by his daughter and son, Beverly Knight Hajovsky and William Richard Knight, his son-in-law Robert Hajovsky, and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews who love him dearly. Services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Dobie Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be on the same day at 3:00 p.m. Runge City Cemetery in Runge, Texas.
