Kenneth Stone Harvey passed away on January 10, 2014, at the age of 82 years. Kenneth was born in Woodsboro, Texas, on February 24, 1931, to the late Michael Andrew Harvey and the late Mattie Stone Harvey Phillips. Kenneth spent the majority of his childhood in Mathis, Texas, where he graduated from Mathis High School in 1949. After graduation, he worked for Halliburton and attended the University of Houston. After receiving his bachelor's degree in geology, he was employed by Magcobar in numerous locations around the United States. He married Merilyn McNeill on August 24, 1957. They moved to Beeville, Texas, in 1958 to raise their family and to pursue his career in the oil and gas business. Kenneth was a proud Eagle Scout and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His greatest pleasures were time spent with his loving family and in the pursuit of the next oil and gas prospect. Kenneth is survived by his best friend and wife of 56 years, Merilyn McNeill Harvey; two sons, Kenneth S. Harvey, Jr. and wife Karen of Beeville, Texas; Michael W. Harvey and wife Stacy of Corpus Christi, Texas; and one daughter, Laurie Cazalas and husband Tim of Corpus Christi, Texas. His grandchildren include Megan Jurach and husband Daniel, Lyndsey Campbell and husband Colt, Wahlt, Blake, Mackenzie, Logan, and Barrett Harvey, Hannah, Preston, and Pierson Cazalas. His great-grandchildren include, D.W. and Elouise Jurach, and the soon to arrive, Kenleigh Campbell. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Dobie Funeral Home, 121 North Duval Street, Mathis, Texas with interment at Cenizo Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wahlt Harvey, Blake Harvey, Barrett Harvey, Logan Harvey, Preston Cazalas, Pierson Cazalas, Daniel Jurach, and Colt Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Stone, Bob Bezdek, Chuck Cazalas, W.D. (Bill) McNeill, and Hilmer Person. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or the Building Fund for the New Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church in Odem, Texas.
