Mathis, Texas Lucia E. Zapata, age 91, passed away June 6, 2014 at her residence. She was born November 29, 1922 in San Marcos, Texas to Longino and Petra Elias. She was a life long resident of Mathis and member of Templo Gethsemani. She was a homemaker and very devoted to her family and enjoyed each Sunday afternoon with her family. She loved to cook for her family and friends, read the bible, and watch Spanish telenovelas. She had a sincere love and faith in Christ and God and was kind to everyone. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesus Zapata. She is survived by five daughters, Juanita (Jesus) Ynfante, Gloria (Leonard, Jr.)Cantu, Alicia (Benito) Hernandez, Maria Zapata and Rosita Zapata all of Mathis, five sons Joe Elias of Lubbock, Texas, Jesse (Birginia) Zapata, Jr. of Sinton, Texas, David (Rosalinda) Zapata and Daniel (Olivia) Zapata both of Mathis and Noe (Norma)Zapata of Orange Grove, Texas, 23 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. A prayers service was held Monday June 9, 2013 at Dobie Funeral Home. Funeral services were Tuesday June 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Templo Gethsemani Church. Burial followed in Descanso Eterno No. 1 Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jessie Ynfante, Jr., Leonard Cantu, III, Roland Hernandez, Jessie Zapata, III, Jason Zapata, Mark Zapata, Xander Zapata and Ezekiel Zapata.
