Sarah L. Stapp, age 88, passed away August 20, 2014 in Carthage, Texas. She was born December 17, 1925 in Anson, Texas to James Rufus and Aletha Wright Greer. Sarah was a member of the First Baptist Church and was very involved with the youth at the church, such as Sunday School, VBS, Zephyr Encampment and chaperoned on many trips. She sang in the community choir, member of Progressive Womens's League, she also traveled to Austin many times to speak for the right of nursing home residents. Sarah worked for FH Vahlsings in accounting/bookkeeping and was secretary at the MISD Weber-Hardin Elementary School. She loved her Mathis Pirates and Lady Pirates still attending games at 88. She loved her children, taught them self discipline, to respect themselves and others. She brought them up in a Godly home. She could reprimand strongly when needed and turn around and defend them like a bear over her cubs. She loved family gatherings, the old stories, laughter, grandkids and great grandkids. Her biggest role was wife and caregiver to her beloved husband Larry. She devoted 66 years to caring for his health needs, supporting his career choices, moving from Weslaco to New York, Mathis, Venezuela and back to Mathis. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eunice Rentz, Beatrice Looney and brothers Walter Greer and A. D Greer. She is survived by her husband Larry Stapp, daughter Linda Stapp Walkoviak, son Steve (Shonnie) Stapp, grandchildren Gina Walkoviak (Jim) Goldman, Stacy Walkoviak, Christi Stapp (Jared) Black, Bradley (Lori) Walkoviak and Brady (Kendal) Stapp, great grandchildren, Ashton, Rhett, Grace, Madelyn, Jaden, Tyler and Beau, and numerous relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Friday August 22 at Dobie Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were Saturday August 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Cenizo Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mike Herrington officiating. In memory of Sarah the family ask memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the South Texas Childrens Home.
