Our dear Mother, Lois Mae (Wernette) Newberry, age 89, died peacefully and victoriously in her home near Lagarto Creek on December 15, 2014. A funeral service will be held at Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis, Texas on December 23, 2014 at 1:00 o'clock p.m. A private burial will be conducted at Lagarto Cemetery after the funeral service. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Frederick A. Wernette and Bertha Mae Rouse Wernette. Her life's joy was in being he loving wife of Harvey B. Newberry, for 59 years. They were married in Corpus Christi on December 11, 1943, and set out on a journey as an Air Force family. Wherever we moved, and that was 17 times in 27 years during Dad's career, she made our home one of acceptance and gentleness, warmth and order, cheerfulness and thanksgiving. Lois graduated from Paschal High School in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was a member of the Clara Driscoll Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Beeville, Texas. She was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Republician Party. She was a successful gardener, enjoyed bowling and homemaking, and she was a major part of the building of their home on Lagarto Creek after Harvey's retirement from the U. S. Air Force in 1969. Her faith in God and in the forgiveness and redemption of the Lord Jesus Christ strengthened her through any and all challenges and trials that came her way. Her love and sacrifice for her children is our parental example. Her resolve to do the right thing as best she could and to "use her head" is our patriot's example. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey B. Newberry and grandson John D. Newberry. She is survived by her four children; Katherine E. (Newberry) Phillips wife of D. Davis Phillips in Austin, Texas, John H. Newberry and his wife Joanie in Austin, Texas,Samuel H. Newberry and his wife Susan in Plano, Texas and Fred A. Newberry and his wife Bonnie in Arlington, Texas, by her nine grandchildren: Lois E. (Phillips) Tietzel, John H. Newberry, Jr. , William F. Newberry, Steven T. Scott, Matthew H. Newberry, Samuel R.
