- Marjorie Dobie Schmidt passed away on March 17, 2015. She was born on August 24, 1929 to James Stanley and Esther Jenkins Dobie of Lagarto, Texas. Marjorie was a retired teacher, having taught in the Mathis School District for 37 years. She was well-liked and highly respected by her students, many of whom credit her as the inspiration to become educators. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her kind gentle nature. Her strength, love and steadfast faith have left a beautiful legacy in which we will always find peace and comfort. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gerald Schmidt, Sr., parents, granddaughter, Carrie Schmidt and sisters Lora (Wiley) Huntsinger, Bernice (Ray) Stembridge, Mary (J.R.) Golden, Julia (Robert) Knight, Alma (W.K.) Morgan. She is survived by three children: Gerald (Linda) Schmidt, Jr., Sherry (Mike) Havelka, Stanley (Debbie) Schmidt, five grandchildren: Traci (Phillip) Zimmerhanzel, Chris (Sterling) Havelka, Kyle (Lindsey) Schmidt, Jason (Samantha) Schmidt, and Kalli (Will) Holder; fourteen great-grandchildren: Tyler and Sydney Zimmerhanzel, Nixon, Daren and Deacon Havelka, Peyton , Kaedyn, Brogan, Rowdi and Twyster Schmidt, Hudson Schmidt, Gage and Gunner Holder and Maryn Schmidt. Visitation will begin on Thursday March 19 at 12:00 p.m. at Dobie Funeral Home. Family will be present Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Dobie Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Friday March 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Cenizo Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and son-in-law, Mike Havelka. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, great grandchildren and friends George Bradley and Jack Freitag. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mathis Sacred Heart Church or the South Texas Children's Home.
