Alfredo Nieto López was born to the late Juan and Teresa López on February 13, 1940. He had one sister, Susan Sendejo and three brothers, Ray, Ezequiel and John López. He also had several nieces and nephews that he was proud of and whom he spoke highly of. He was immersed in the Christian community and became a member of the Calvary Mennonite Church in Mathis, Texas, upon meeting and marrying his beloved wife, Beatrice Elena Saldivar, on May 19, 1964. They had two children, Dr. Alfred López Jr and Cindy Lee López, both educators with one being an artist. He was a resident of Mathis most of his life where he made life-long friends and where a lot of his family reside.
Alfredo was very creative and enjoyed making things with his hands. He worked mostly in construction, was very artistic, and musically inclined. You could often find him working outside building a bench, a birdhouse, or an actual house for someone. He enjoyed doing construction work for his siblings. In his younger years, he was a migrant worker and knew what hard work was, so once he became a father, he made sure to encourage his children to stay in school. He worked hard to make sure his two children pursued and received a good education. Alfredo was an advocate of education; he believed that it was necessary for having a good and successful life. He was supportive, caring, loving, and a good Christian man who served God. He was a proud husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, friend, church member, and neighbor.
He enjoyed nature, animals, building things, fishing, playing music for the Lord, and spending time with family and friends. He loved telling jokes and was a great storyteller. He was talented and could play many instruments that included: guitar, harmonica, bajo sexton, with the accordion being his favorite. He and his wife, Beatrice, along with family members and friends, had a gospel band for many years called “Los Creyentes De Cristo” (The Believers of Christ). The gospel band toured all over Texas and his goal was to spread the word of God through music. He was a self-taught man and learned to do many things considering that he did not have an education. Yet, Alfredo could speak, read, and write both in English and Spanish.
He will be missed by all his family, friends, and those who knew him. He is now resting with the Lord in Heaven and has been reunited with his loved ones in paradise.
