Amado Gutierrez Martinez, age 85, was born February 21, 1938 and passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 surround by his loving family. Amado was born to Antonio and Tomasita Martinez in Mathis, Texas.
Amado was an avid fisherman, loved to hunt with a gun and slingshot. He had a passion for working with the toughest, meanest horses and cattle, he was also always up for a competitive game of pool or a strategic game of dominoes. He was a jack of all trades, never met a stranger, was a comedian and had a nickname for everyone. He loved his family unconditionally. Amado was the last of the Legendary Martinez Cowboys of Lagarto, Texas to ride home.
Amado is preceded in death by his Parents; his soulmate of 30 years, Antonia Licona Martinez; his Daughter, Diana Martinez; Sons, Matthew Martinez, Manuel (Lolo) Martinez, and Ricardo Martinez.
Amado was one of 10 siblings who he loved dearly and was also preceded in death by his four Brothers, Encarnacion Martinez, Macario Martinez, Bonefacio Martinez, and Manuel Martinez; four Sisters, Leonor Olivo, Josefina Martinez, Seferina Hinojosa, and Maria Urdialez.
Leaving behind with many memories to cherish are his Sister, Tomasita Morin; Seven Children, George (Debra) Martinez of Beeville, Texas, Amado Martinez Jr., Antonio (Irene) Martinez of Berclair, Texas, Estella (Jesse) Lane of George West, Texas, Enrique Martinez, Amanda (Johnny) Deaver of Lagarto, Texas and Dianne Martinez (Charles Smith); 23 Grandchildren and 24 Great Children.
Pallbearers will be Amado Martinez III, Chris Perez, Damien Martinez, Thomas Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Evan Gonzalez, Matthew Martinez, Kyle Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Martinez, Amado Martinez Jr. Antonio Martinez, Enrique Martinez, and Myles Martinez, Johnny Deaver, Jesse Lane, Charles Smith.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm and Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis, Texas. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday, April 3, 2023 followed by interment at Lagarto Cemetery in Lagarto, Texas.
