Anita Marie (Sorrells) Salge was born April 23, 1956 in Brady, Texas to Troy and Inez (Probst) Sorrells. She passed from this life and entered into eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 1, 2024 in a San Antonio, Texas area hospital. Her husband Darby was at her bedside to witness the miraculous departure. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Troy and Inez Sorrells, her sister Sara Cunningham; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Howard and Della Ann Salge. She is survived by her husband of forty-one years Darby, son Paul, daughter-in-law Melanie, granddaughters Alexa and Makayla, and grandson Caleb; son Brian, daughter-in-law Ashley, grandson Jace and granddaughter Holly. Other survivors include brothers, Fred Sorrells and family; Kinley Sorrells and family and sister Ella Snodgrass and family and the family of sister Sara Cunningham; brother-in-law Morris Salge and family; as well as numerous extended family members.
Anita was believer in Jesus Christ and this influenced every aspect of her life. She was a gifted and talented individual with her greatest gift being the Gift of Love. Her many other gifts and talents include being a devoted wife, mother, Oma (grandmother), special education teacher, church pianist, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and a friend to countless people. Her hobbies and special interests included playing the piano, singing the church choir, cooking, taking care of her children and grandchildren and working with her husband in his pastoral ministry and jobs around the farm.
Anita and Darby spent countless hours together enjoying each other’s company while they worked together on the farm and around the churches they served. She would spend the time patiently sitting in the pickup praying and reading her Bible. She loved Gods nature, especially the springtime flowers along the roadside with her favorite flower being the Texas Bluebonnet. She enjoyed watching wildlife and in later years would accompany Darby on hunting trips in South Texas. She also enjoyed watching the family pets of cats and dogs. However, her personal
favorites “pets” that she enjoyed watching were the cows.
Anita loved helping others. This was seen by her ability to show the Love of Christ without saying a word. That love could be seen by her personality, devotion to others, devotion to the Church and especially devotion to family. She actively cared for many extended family members without thought of reward or recognition.
This can also be seen with her work to help those with special needs. She saw this work as a God-given charge to help every student regardless of ability, often helping students that others could not. Her goal as a teacher was to build up each student to help them reach their full potential.
Anita’s ultimate hope was that others would follow her example in life and would accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior because they had witnessed His influence in her life.
Anita will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her, however, she will live on in their hearts, memories, and by the legacy that she left behind in those that she loved.
