Annette Hessong Obituary

Annette Thiede Hessong of Portland, Texas, went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 14, 2024.

She was born to Otto and Bonnie Thiede on November 24, 1938 in Monthalia, Texas. She attended Pettus High School where she graduated Valedictorian of her class and was a star basketball athlete who helped take her team to State. She graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1960 with a degree in education.

Annette was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years Richard G. Hessong, along with her twin boys Wayne & Dwayne Hessong; her parents, Otto and Bonnie Thiede; her 3 brothers, Bill Thiede, Merrell (ltsy) Thiede and David (Mary) Thiede. She is survived by her 3 children, David (Julie) Hessong of Dallas, TX, Brian Hessong of Portland, TX, and D'Ann (Eric) Hamon of Taft, TX. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Natalie (Johnathan) Cochran of Dallas, TX, Blane (Samantha) Hamon of Ben Bolt, TX, Sage (Meredith) Hamon of Austin, TX., Christine (Jason) Monk of Tomball, TX; 4 great grandchildren, Weston and Jackson Hamon of Ben Bolt, TX., Blakely and Parker Monk of Tomball, TX; cousin Cheryl (Mike) Harris of Bastrop and many nieces & great nieces & nephews. Her family was her greatest joy in life and her love for them was unwavering.

After graduation Annette married and moved to Gregory, Texas in 1960. She taught and coached junior high in Gregory-Portland ISD until she found her calling at the elementary level teaching 3rd grade. She was a beloved 3rd grade teacher for many years and loved seeing and talking with her ex students through the years. She had a caring heart for all her students, and we have been told many stories of her kindness and love through teaching.

Annette retired from teaching in 1995 and enjoyed her time traveling with Rick and friends on road trips to the mountains, casinos, and on cruise ships all over the country and beyond. She also enjoyed working in D'Ann's boutique and engaging with the public, friends she knew or just acquaintances, she had a gift for gab and would talk to anyone. She never met a stranger. But her absolute favorite past time was watching her grandchildren in all of their activities, especially sporting events. Her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was boundless. Although she will be dearly missed, we feel happy that she is back in the arms of our Papa and our Lord, exactly where she wants to be.

A special heartfelt thank you is extended to all of those at Anthem Home Care especially Mary Jane & Jolene for taking such loving care of our Nana & Summitt Hospice for helping our family navigate this journey.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
