Antonia Garza, 83, was granted her wings on March 23, 2014. She was born January 17, 1931 in Gregory, Texas to Jose and Guadalupe Lopez.Rain or shine, sick or not she was an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception church. Her interests include family, gardening, listening and dancing to music, chatting with friends and cooking. No one could ever say they starved or keep to a diet in her kitchen. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members and friends.
Mrs. Garza is survived by her beloved husband and soul mate of 59 years, Elias Garza; son Leo (Betty) Garza; daughter Sylvia (Charles) Wood; son Jose Luis Garza; 7 sisters; 3 brothers; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. All of which talked, laughed and/or visited with her on a daily basis. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from too many people to name individually. A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 9:00 pm, Tuesday March 25, 2014 and also from 3:00 – 9:00 pm, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home. Mrs. Garza was known to lead many rosary services for family and friends. So with heavy hearts the family request that now others lead her rosary on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Limbaugh Funeral Home in Portland at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014. A luncheon reception for the family and close friends will be held at the parish hall following burial at the Gregory Cemetery. This is the obituary written by Corina Garza Garcia, in honor of my dearest grandmother. From the time I was born to 35 years later and beyond, this is how I will remember you: “Sitting next to you doing absolutely nothing, meant absolutely everything to me.”
