Bobbie Jean (Bland) Buckner passed away on Christmas morning at 7:26 am after a courageous battle. Beating all family longevity records, she lived a fulfilling life just 5 days short of her 100th birthday. Bobbie was born in Dallas, TX to Robert Claude Bland (Paw Paw) and his wife Eva Massey. Bobbie graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School followed by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas in 1946. She was very proud that she attended college during WWII and enjoyed her time in Austin. She returned to Dallas and worked for Dallas Power and Light Co. until after she married John Robert Buckner. She was a wonderful mother to her two sons, Robert Kenneth Buckner (wife: Pam) and Thomas Edward Buckner (wife: Terri). She was extremely loving to her three grandsons from Robert and Pam: Mark Edward Buckner (wife: Karina), Michael Alan Buckner (wife: Lindzi) and David Aaron Buckner (wife: Danielle). Mark and Karina are raising three boys in Los Angeles, CA named Mateo, Lucas, and Diego. Michael and Lindzi are raising a boy, Reid, in Hollywood, CA and had a daughter, Evan that preceded Bobbie Buckner to Heaven. David and Danielle have a son Bobby and Daughter Lilly Grace that they are raising in Atlanta, GA. How she loved her great grandchildren!
Bobbie Buckner was preceded in death by both her parents and husband John Robert Buckner, her sister Rosie Sells and husband John Sells and daughter Cindy Mayle, her brother Bobby Bland, step-sister Anita Robinson, and step-brother Finis Grinke. She is survived by her sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren mentioned, niece Claudia Huber (husband: Ron) from Phoenix, AZ, plus her kids Travis McCarthy (wife: Shannon) and children Tanner and Payton. Also Tia Creed (husband: Troy) and kids Kate and Charlie, and nephew Jay Sells (wife: Denise). Cindy Mayle’s children Autumn Easton (and her kids Shea Haven, Lexi Montoya and Olivia Montoya) and Joshua Easton (and son Ivan). Bobbie loved Rosie’s children like her own, but Claudia was very special to her, and cared for Bobbie as she did for her own parents in the Beatitudes Retirement Community. Also, her step-sister Anita’s (Aunt Nita) children Glen Robinson (wife: Rita) of College Station, Richard Robinson (wife: Ida) of Dallas and Steve Robinson of Garland. All of these cousins were very influential in our family upbringing and “Aunt Bobbie” loved them as her own.
Bobbie Jean Buckner was loved by multitudes of people and often considered to be the sweetest person ever born. She was loving and kind, and quick to make friends. She left a trail of friends wherever she lived, from Dallas to Phoenix to Corpus Christi and will surely be missed.
