Carol Ann Barclay 

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Barclay on December 30, 2024, at Brookdale Holmgreen in Corpus Christi, after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Carol was a long-time resident of Portland, Texas. She will be missed greatly by her children, grandchildren and friends. 

Carol was born in Waco, Texas on May 21, 1938, to Murray Watson, Sr and Ethel Bryson Watson. Carol lived her childhood in Mart, Texas just outside of Waco, and she didn’t venture far when she left home to attend college at Baylor University. 

 It was here she met the love of her life, Walter Philip Barclay, Sr. They were married for 50 years. Carol was a devoted Marine wife and loved the military life of 18 years. So many dear friends and adventures were made along the way. 

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Murray Watson Sr. and Ethel Bryson Watson; her brother, Murray Watson Jr.; and her husband, Walter Philip Barclay Sr. Carol is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Barclay Reeves (Jeffrey Reeves) of Pearland, Texas; her son, Walter Philip Barclay, Jr. (Patti Barclay) of Portland, Tx; her granddaughter Jennifer Ruthell Reeves of New York City; and her granddaughter Katie Ann Barclay of San Antonio, Texas. 

Perhaps Carol is best known for her love of cooking. She had many recipes published in several publications including Southern Living Magazine. There wasn’t much Carol couldn’t do; she was a beautiful seamstress, and she decorated cakes that were loved by many. She was the “techiest” 86-year-old person I know!! 

There will be no public memorial service; however, Carol will be laid to rest with her loving husband at the Corpus Christi Veterans Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Michael J Fox Parkinsons Foundation, a cause very dear to Carol’s heart. Although Carol is no longer with us, her legacy of love lives on in her family.
