Charles "Charlie" Emmit Hayek, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13, 2012. He was born on April 29, 1930 to Emil and Ruby Hayek in Three Rivers, Texas. The family moved to Corpus Christi to farm.
Charles attended Incarnate Word Academy, Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Academy and Del Mar College where he studied drafting. One of his first projects was the first Whataburger in Corpus Christi.
He married Irene "Renee" Francis in 1950. They raised five children in Portland, Texas. Renee was his loving wife until her passing in 1998.
Charles left drafting to work with his brother in law, Bill Butler, opening Portland Lumber and Suppy in 1954.He also took over operation of Hayek Construction when his father E.W. Hayek retired.
Charles was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church; served as one of the first Eucharistic
Ministers; Knights of Columbus; Portland Kiwanis club; Local and State Lumberman's Association; the Corpus Christi Heart Association which he served as president and he helped organize Portland Little League.
He married Mildred Briggs in 2000 and lived in Portland until his passing. Charles enjoyed life; hunting, fishing, golfing, being with friends and most of all he loved God and his family.
Charles is survived by his wife Mitty; children Gary (La Rue) Hayek, Gail (Damian) Skrobarczyk, Diane (Bill) Kirby, Ronnie (Geneva) Hayek,and Doug (Patty) Hayek; stepchildren Jonathan Tomlinson, Jennifer (Steve Toloken) Tomlinson, Joel (Maya) Tomlinson; grandchildren Todd (Angela) Hayek, Travis (Melissa)Kirby, Marshall Kirby, Danielle Padilla, Jared Hayek, Brian Hayek and Sarah Hayek; step-grandchildren Joshua Tomlinson, Jesica Tomlinson, Jakoba Tomlinson, and Ada Grace Tomlinson; great grandchildren Dalton Hayek, Mckenzie Hayek and Allison Kirby; sister Dolores Butler and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 6:00pm - 7:00pm with Rosary following at 7:00pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Limbaugh Funeral Home in Portland. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Portland, TX on April 18, at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Palms Memorial Gardens.

Honorary Pallbearers: Ken Turner, Charles Roe, Zeph Pease, Bruce Miller, Fred Smith, Keith Wimer, Ed Meisenheimer, Tom Glover, L.E. Little.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities or Metro Ministries.
