Dona Estell Rieger was called to her heavenly home on Monday morning, the 10th of July 2023, at the age of 76. She was born in Angleton, Texas on the 10th of April 1947 to Shelton "Pete" Price and Doris Massey Coker. Dona was raised in Bay City and then Boling, Texas. After graduating from Boling High School, she attended Wharton County Junior College and received an Associate Business Degree. She then married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Allen Rieger, in Wharton, Texas on December 16, 1967. Following Lloyd's graduation from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1970 the happy couple relocated to Rock Island, Texas and then settled in Portland, Texas in 1974. Portland was home for almost 50 years where they raised their two sons, Jason and Jeremy, and where she supported Lloyd in his practice at San Patricio Animal Clinic.
Dona committed her life to her family as a devoted wife, dedicated homemaker and loving mother and "Honey" to her grandson, Rhett. She crisscrossed the state while encouraging Jason and Jeremy's love of soccer, baseball and tennis. For the last 40 years, she lived at and helped Lloyd, Jason and Jeremy manage and develop ranches in Goliad, Nordheim, Pearsall/Uvalde Texas and Cloudcroft/Pinon New Mexico. Dona will be forever remembered for her faith in Christ and ever-present willingness to help her family, friends and others who were in need. In recent years, she was a member of Oakridge Baptist Church in Portland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Roger Price. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Lloyd Rieger, sons, Jason Rieger and wife, Kellie, and Jeremy Rieger and grandson, Rhett Rieger, and nephew Cody Price and niece, Cheyenne Price.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. on Friday, the 21st of July 2023 at Winsteads' Funeral Home in Portland, Texas. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place immediately thereafter at the Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Portland/Taft, Texas.
With love we raise Dona up to everlasting peace, knowing that God will continue to shower His blessings upon her, while helping all of us fill the void her absence leaves.
