Emma Margaret (Margie) Merritt was born on July 4, 1941, in Port Lavaca, Texas and passed away on June 19,2023 in Portland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, her loving husband Claude Merritt, and her son Richard Murdoch. She is survived by her daughters Gaylin Estes (Danny), Joy Loest (Michael) and Carla Vanzant (Clint), her sister Jackie Edwards of Victoria, 8 grandchildren Kyle Hensel(CO) Charley Walker(TX) Cody Vanzant(OK)Kasey Hensel(TX) Tyler Murdoch (TX) Hailey Vanzant (LA) Kodey Hensel (CO) Tiffany Vanzant (TX), six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins, she also had seven step-children Sue, Claudia, Glen, Nancy, Linda and Cindy along with their children, Kim, Mayme, Julie, George, Leslie, Jerrell, Laura, Amanda, Stephanie, Courtney, Patrick, Levi, Jarrett, Kayla, Dixie and Dustin.
Margie was a stay-at-home mom for many years and then began working for the Mathis School District, she volunteered as a 4-H Leader for over 20 years for the San Patricio 4-H Club and San Patricio County. She enjoyed encouraging the kids of San Patricio on their various projects and working with them to become leaders in the community. She also enjoyed serving as a chaperone for many trips for the 4-Hers in the county. She later had an antique shop where she loved shopping for items for her shop. She also took care of many of her friends in their final days, she loved being there for them and helping them.
Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren compete in many activities like band, cheer, wrestling and baseball and she would travel to Oklahoma to watch them. She loved road tripping with her friends to casinos, garage sales and antique stores.
