Fred Allen Bingham

Fred Bingham, age 88, of Portland, TX passed away November 26, 2023 at home. He was born on October 19, 1935 in Smiley, TX to Roy Alvin Bingham and Dorothy Rummel Bingham. Fred worked for the railroad in the late 50’s and early 60’s. In the early 60’s he started working as a clerk at Harbormaster office for the Port of Corpus Christi, then he was in charge of Bulk Materials Dock until he became assistant Harbor Master then the Harbor Master of the Port of Corpus Christi till 1995 when he retired. Fred and his wife Martha were married on August 27, 1955 and had 2 children Carol and Allen. They moved to Portland in 1961.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Alvin Bingham and Dorothy Bingham, brother Cecil, wife Martha Bingham. He is survived by daughter Carol (Walter) Bickel; son Allen (Gwen) Bingham; Grandchildren Christopher Bickel, Joshua Bickel, Aubrey Bingham, and great-granddaughter Khloey Bickel.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Winsteads’ Funeral Home in Portland, TX, with the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. and burial at 3:00 p.m. at Choate Cemetery in Choate, TX. Pallbearers will be Christopher Bickel, Joshua Bickel, Walter Bickel, Austin McFarlain and Adam Cancino.
