George P. Bradley, born on June 7, 1935, in Kings Park, New York, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, in Mathis, Texas. He is survived by his children Dean and Donna, grandchildren Peggy, Erin, Rafael, Alex and Kyle, and great grandchildren Cain, Braden, Conner, Carson, Lincoln, Dominic, Porter and Callie. His wife, Shirley preceded him by two months. They were inseparable in life as well.

George often spoke fondly of his childhood home of Kings Park, New York and a simpler small town upbringing. His father was a plumber and mother a nurse. He was athletic as a child and reminisced about how his team’s relay race state record still held when he and Shirley returned for their 50th high school graduation celebration.

George joined the US Army in 1958 and served for 20 years retiring as a Lt Colonel from Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Colorado. His tours of duty took him to Vietnam, Korea, Germany and several US posts. He was a nurse anesthetist and took great pride in the clinical practice of anesthesia. He often shared that the art of anesthesia was to provide just the right amount of medication so that the patient woke up on command soon after surgery but felt no pain.

He and Shirley moved to southern Texas in 1980 to retire close to the “warm waters” of Corpus Christi. They eventually bought a home a bit more inland near Mathis, Texas so that George could practice his other passion of gardening, and they could enjoy a quieter country lifestyle. George was a voracious reader and scholar of history and often sited details, dates and names from those studies from memory.

Public Visitation will be at Winsteads' Funeral Home at 4pm and Rosary will be recited at 5pm on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
