Our beloved Gina Gwen Garza-Smith was escorted to heaven by her guardian angels and called to eternal rest on Sunday April 27 after a long and lengthy illness that she courageously battled till the very end. She died on a very special day the Canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII and Divine Mercy Sunday .Gina was born on August 9th 1976 in Corpus Christi, TX to Joe B. Garza and Aurora T. Garza, She attended school in Portland and graduated high School in 1994. Gina was a caring mother to her two beautiful daughters with whom she dedicated her whole life .Gina was a lifelong Catholic and had recently attended and ACTS retreat which she thoroughly enjoyed. Gina was kind, considerate and always there to lend a shoulder or give advice to her many friends and family. Always quick witted and she didn't hold any punches. She loved to take her girls to the beach and on out of town trips whenever possible to the zoo or anywhere her daughters wanted to go. Gina spent countless hours working on arts and crafts projects with her daughters and many nieces .Gina was an avid music lover and had a vast knowledge of a variety of different genres of music. She enjoyed family BBQs and get-togethers and birthday parties for her daughters. Her beautiful smile and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by all whom were fortunate enough to know her. Gina was a lifelong resident of Portland Texas. She spent the last 4 months of her life in a hospital in San Antonio where her mother, brothers and family members kept a constant vigil over her. Gina joins her sisters Debbie Agueros (2007) and Joann Zambrano (2012) in eternal life. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents Frank Trevino SR and Leonor Trevino. She is survived by her two beautiful daughters Isabela Skye Smith (7) and Ariel Starlet Smith (5); her parents Joe B Garza, (Sinton), Aurora Garza (Portland) ;2 brothers Randy T. Garza (Sylvia) of Odem and Edward J. Garza of Sinton, Texas; and numerous nieces and a nephew. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00am on Thursday May 8, 2014 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Portland TX with a Mass to follow.
