Guadalupe G. Villarreal Jr. of Mathis, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025 at the age of 78, following a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born on November 16, 1946 in Elgin, Texas to Guadalupe and Maria Villarreal. Guadalupe lived a life defined by resilience, service and love.
Despite losing his legs as a child due to a terrible accident, Guadalupe never let adversity define him. Graduating from high school at the age of 21 and continuing his education at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor graduating with a BA of Arts majoring in telecommunications. After joining the workforce, he soon realized law enforcement was his passion. Guadalupe served as a proud member of the Travis County Sheriff Department, Bastrop Police Department, Columbus Sheriff Department, Eagle Lake Police Department and Texas Department of Criminal Justice Garza East Unit in Beeville Texas. . He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1983, serving as Grand Knight for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis. With unwavering determination, he pursued his dreams and dedicated his life to helping others.
Beyond his remarkable career, Guadalupe was a devoted family man who found joy in hunting, fishing, sharing his cinnamon candy during Christmas and creating new stylish clear bags for all the TDCJ employees. On his free time he was at the local cinemas, he was always up to date with the latest premieres.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosa DeLaRosa Villarreal; his daughters, Delicia Ledezma and Julia (Daniel) Dominguez; his son, Guadalupe (Lisa) Villarreal III; his grandchildren, Martin Ledezma, Christopher Ledezma, Anthony Ibarra, Alaine Ibarra, Jasmine Villarreal, Izaiah Dominguez, Izabella Dominguez, Nicholas Dominguez, June Dominguez.; his great grandchildren, Makayla Ledezma, Christopher Ledezma Jr, and Adelina Garcia. Additionally he is survived by his sister, Juliana Alcocer; brothers, Felipe (Annie) Villarreal, Zaragoza Villarreal and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nathaniel Dominguez; sisters, Susie Cantu, Lucy Vasquez, Pauline Perez, Mary Villarreal; brothers, Victor Villarreal, and Sydney Villarreal.
Guadalupe’s life was a testament of the power of perseverance and he inspired everyone who knew him to face challenges with courage and grace. His life was a testament to resilience and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his strength, kindness and indomitable spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will be at 3:00 pm and Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Winsteads' Funeral Home in Mathis. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by interment at Descanso Eterno II in Mathis, Texas.
Pallbearers: Martin Ledezma, Christopher Ledezma, Anthony Ibarra, Jasmine Villarreal, Izaiah Dominguez and Izabella Dominguez.
