Jackie Leland Terrell

Jackie Leland Terrell, age 89, “Fell asleep in death” December 3, 2024. He resided in Mathis Texas.

He was born April 30, 1935 in Premont Texas to George Carl Terrell Sr. and Emma Dessie Boles Terrell. He was one of 13 brothers and sisters.

He married the love of his life, Loeta Jo Hedgcoth, May 5, 1954 in Alice Texas. They were married 59 years until her passing in 2014. Together they have a daughter, Deborah Kay Read and son, Gary Scott Terrell. He loved his family dearly.

In 1975, he moved his family to Kenai Alaska to stake his claim.  He had such a zeal for life and adventure. He was an owner operator of an oilfield company (Alaska Pipe Recovery Specialist.) He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting Moose and fishing for salmon with his family until his retirement in 1995.

Moving back to Texas he and Jo (Skeeter) served Jehovah side by side. He served as an Elder of the Central Mathis congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

In 2012 he and Jo moved to Jonesborough, Tennessee where his daughter and family lived. There he served as an Elder for 10 years in the Olde Town Congregation. Here he was known and loved by many. He loved going on cruises with Jo, his daughter, Debbie & her husband Bill and grandkids. He loved boating with them on the many lakes there.

In 2023, he moved back to Texas to live with Scott and his wife, Sherry. He continued to hunt and fish and enjoy family time.  He loved running trot-lines and fishing for catfish in Lake Corpus Christi. He also loved sitting around a campfire playing music. He was very musically inclined. Whether it was playing the guitar or French harp, he could pick out any tune. He was also known for his fish fry’s and getting together with family and friends both in Tennessee and Texas. He was also a barbecue brisket master.

He held a firm conviction that life in this system is temporary and looked forward to the resurrection promised at Acts 24:15 where he will be reunited with his wife and other family members who proceeded him in death to live forever in Paradise.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Bill) Read of Jonesborough Tennessee; Son, Scott (Sherry) Terrell of Sandia Tx.; Grandchildren, Melinda (Avery) Pennington, Sonja (James) Vogler, Jackie (Christi) Terrell, Jason (Heather) Schnider, Eric (Audra) Schnider.
