Jason Leigh Betz passed away October 25, 2021 at the age of 46. He was born on September 19, 1975 to Lynn and Edna Leigh Betz in Portland, Texas.
Jason graduated from Gregory- Portland High School in 1994. He participated in Boy Scouts as he was growing up. He earned the Eagle Scout award, the highest honor in scouting, by the time he was 18 years old. He continued his work with the scouts throughout his adulthood serving as an assistant scoutmaster for the Portland Boy Scout Troop 345.
Jason enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking, and canoeing with the scouts or his family. Two of his favorite places to visit were the Frio River in the Hill Country, or the cool Colorado mountains.
Jason loved spending time with his family. From game nights, parties, vacations, and holiday traditions—he looked forward to all of these occasions. He is the proud uncle of seven nephews, four great nephews, and three great nieces. He was very generous and always made sure that each of his nephews, nieces and family members had a Christmas gift from him.
He grew up in and was an active member in the Portland Church of Christ.
Jason is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents—O.J. and Katie Betz, his maternal grandmother—Selma Rutherford, and his father—Lyndle Betz.
He is survived by his mother—Edna Leigh Betz; his siblings—Kelly Betz (Jacki), Michael Betz (Stephanie), Lana Farr (Paul) and all of his nephews and nieces.
He will be greatly missed by all of his family, his Christian family and friends who love him dearly. We are saddened at the loss of our son, brother, uncle and friend. We rejoice and are comforted in knowing he is with the Lord, our Savior, in Heaven.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at The Palms Memorial Gardens in Portland.
