JoAnn Hensley Hennig Meischen

JoAnn (JoJo) Hensley Hennig Meischen was born on October 7, 1934 and rejoined her loved ones in Heaven on February 20, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Briggs and Willie Irma Batey Hensley, brother, John Hensley Sr., husbands L.C. Hennig, Jr. and Elwood Meishcen and son, Terry Dean Hennig.  She is survived by sons, Kim (Donna) Hennig of George West, TX, Kevin (Roxanne) Hennig of Corpus Christi, TX, Brad (Kandy) Hennig of Papalote, TX and daughter, Shannon Hennig Macias of Floresville, TX.  Surviving grandchildren include Shain Hennig, Chase (Jenna) Hennig, Chance (Sawyer) Hennig, Hayleigh (Trent) Wagnon, Holly Hennig, Hillary Hennig, Cameryn (Robert) Kerr, L.C. Hennig, Travis Hennig, Hunter Brown, Justin (Lauren) Meeks, Blanton (Ashleigh) Robertson, Katy (Dylon) Morrow, Kaleb Macias.  Surviving great grandchildren include Brady and Gage Hennig, Parker and Colt Wagnon, Khylie, Kyndall and Dirks Kerr, Maddox and Dakota Meeks, Charlie, Anabelle and Isabelle Robertson, and Masyn and Brody Morrow.  Surviving brother is Tommy (Laura) Hensley.  She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and many, many friends.  The family would like to thank Brittany Harris for her loving care of JoJo as well as the staff of Live Oak Nursing Center and Gramman House.

 

JoAnn spent her childhood and young adult life in Bee County where she attended school and was crowned the first Bee County Farm Bureau Queen.  After marrying L.C. Hennig in 1954, they made a home in Mathis, Texas where she was known as the warm, kind and welcoming face for the office of Dr. Dan Baen.  As her children became older, she attended Del Mar College and received her Dental Assistant certification and went on to work for Dr. W.A. Henderson and Dr. Lawrence Tiller.  JoAnn was also the secretary for Olan McCraw, Superintendent of Mathis ISD.  JoAnn was involved in many community and church activities including Progressive Women’s League, Mathis PTA, Bridge Club, Sacred Heart Altar Society and choir director and organist for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  As JoAnn had grandchildren, she lovingly became known as JoJo, and was fondly called JoJo by everyone she met.  Following L.C.’s death, JoAnn married Elwood Meischen and became part of the Orange Grove community and enjoyed participating in community events with Elwood and spending time with Elwood’s children and grandchildren.

 

JoJo’s memorial service will take place Sunday, February 27 at 2pm at the Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis, followed by fellowship at the Katzfey Barn in George West.
