Joaquina C. Garibay

Joaquina C. Garibay, of Mathis, Texas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Joaquina was born in Edroy, Texas on August 16, 1934 to Librado Castro Sr. and Petra Torres. In 1959, she married the late Doroteo Garibay Sr. and was blessed with 7 children. After his passing in 1976, Joaquina continued on with faith and tenacity to ensure that all of her children graduated high school and could thrive beyond a diploma. She took great pride in her hard work raising her children, their success in graduating, and deeply loved each of them. 

Joaquina was a devout Catholic who loved her Lord and Blessed Mother above all else. She was a Eucharistic Minister/Housekeeper and served her Church faithfully.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Librado Castro Sr. and Petra Torres, husband Doroteo Garibay Sr., daughter Margarita Gonzales, sister Herlinda Hudson, and brother Eduardo Castro.

Left to cherish her memory are children Diana Marez of Corpus Christi, Jaime Garibay of Orange Grove, Doroteo Garibay Jr. of Mathis, Norma (Jim) Carmack of San Antonio, Hector/Kon (Bernadette) Garibay of Mathis, Mario (D’Ann) Garibay of Mathis, 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Maria Concepcion Gutierrez of Odem, Elvira Trevino of Mathis, Librado Castro Jr. of Mathis, Claudio Castro of Michigan, and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be at the Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis, Texas on Monday, June 26, 2023 beginning at 11 am and the Rosary being recited at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church in Mathis, Texas. Interment will be at the San Patricio County Cemetery.
