John Cliffton Jones, 81, passed away April 29, 2011 in Portland, TX after a long time battle with COPD and multiple strokes. He was born December 21, 1929 in Altus, OK.
He proudly served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the Army from 1948 to 1952 having been awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star.
He graduated from LSU, Baton Rouge, LA with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1955. He worked for McDonald-Douglas, NASA, Chrysler and General Electric through his career. He has lived in Santa Monica, CA; Alamogordo, NM; Ft. Worth, TX; Houma, LA; Huntsville, AL; New Orleans, LA; Binghamton, NY; Shreveport-Bossier, LA; Marshall, TX; and Portland, TX.
He his preceded in death by his Parents, John Mac Farland Jones and Mary Portwood Jones of Altus, OK and his brother Carroll M. Jones of Cour D'Ilene, ID.
He is survived by his wife Marie C. Richards Jones of Portland, TX. They were married on June 16, 1951 in Ville Platte, LA. Their children Jennifer Jones Beck of Ingleside, TX and her husband Ronald Peter Beck and Chris Anthony Jones of Newport News, VA and his wife Debbie Thompson Jones; grandchildren Jonathan Christopher Leritte of Shreveport, LA, Sgt. Jeremy Wilton Leritte of Schofield Barracks, HI, Mark Anthony Jones of Newport News, VA; step-grandchildren; Timothy Paul Trice of Houston, TX and Brian Casey Trice, Sr. of Corpus Christi, TX;
brothers & sister; Kenneth L. Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, George Mack Jones of Salt Lake City, UT, R. Marcus Jones of Dallas, TX, and Donna Kay Jones-Riley, of Hudson, CO.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 9:00 pm, Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 pm that same evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Monday, May 2, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, TX. Interment and military honors will be at the Gregory Cemetery in Gregory, TX.
