Joyce Greer

Joyce Thomas Greer was called back Home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 8, 2025 at her home in Leakey Texas with her loved ones by her side. Joyce, affectionately known to most as Memaw, was born October 10, 1934 to Therbert and Hettie Thomas in Hopkins County Texas. Joyce was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Wesley, one brother, three sisters and one grandson. 

Joyce grew up in northeast Texas. She snuck off and married the love of her life Wesley Franklin Greer on September 27, 1952. Their ceremony was performed by a J.P. in Arkansas, away from those who did not approve of them getting married so young. The “nay-sayers” might be surprised they only stayed married for a short 68 plus years. After moving to Corpus Christi in 1953, she and Wesley started their family and she eventually went to work at Corpus Christi National Bank. They moved their young family to Portland, TX in 1962 and she then went to work for Portland State Bank. Joyce retired from work and she and Wesley moved to Leakey, TX in 1980. She was a Co-Founder and actively served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Frio Canyon Parks Association. Joyce was extremely devoted to her husband, family and friends. She enjoyed spending quality time with them on their front porch.

Joyce is survived by her son, Ronnie (Cathy) Greer of Leakey, TX and daughter Judy (Tom) Albrecht of Haltom City, TX; One sister Joan Carey of Blossom, TX; One brother Rickey (Linda) Thomas of Blossom, TX; 4 grandkids; 10 great-grandkids; 7 great-great grandchildren (plus one in the oven) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Winsteads' Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Dr. Portland, Texas 78374. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2025 at Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4335 CR 3567, Taft, Texas 78390. Rev Jimmy Allbrecht officiating.
