June Margaret Housley Freitag

June Margaret Housley Freitag went to be with her Lord and her Savior on January 9, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born on June 12, 1930 to Claude and Margaret Nicol Housley in San Benito, Texas.  June lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, deeply embedded in her community and family.

An accomplished professional, June dedicated 28 years of her life as the office manager for Lykes Bros Feed Yard in Edroy, Texas. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional duties; she was actively involved in local organizations, serving as a director at the Mathis Public Library, Bunco club and as a member of the Cenizo Garden Club. Her contributions to these groups reflected her passion for fostering community spirit and promoting literacy and joy through reading and gardening.

June had a tremendous love for sports, particularly as an avid fan of the Houston Astros. Many fond memories were created as she took her grandchildren to weekends filled with Astros baseball, sharing her enthusiasm for the game and bonding with her family in the process.

She leaves behind her beloved family, including sons Ron (Heidi) Freitag of Austin, TX, Rick (Sherry) Freitag Corpus Christi, TX, and Roger Freitag of George West, TX. June was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her legacy forward and remember her warmth and wisdom. Additionally, she is survived by three nieces and two nephews, who will also cherish her memory.

June is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jack Freitag, who was a significant part of her life journey. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Margaret Nicol Housley, and her brother, Glenn Housley.

A memorial service to honor June's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Winsteads' Funeral Home located at 121 N Duval St., Mathis, TX 78368.

June Margaret Housley Freitag will be remembered for her loving nature, her dedication to family, and her unwavering spirit. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
