Lucia V. Cavazos, fondly known as Lucy, of Mathis, Texas was called home to our Lord at the age of 78 on Thursday, July 21, 2022 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on February 11, 1944 to Luis and Tomasa Cavazos in Tynan, Texas. Lucy graduated from Mathis High School and worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) for 29 years. After retiring from Southwestern Bell, she then worked part-time for San Patricio County in Mathis for 10 years. In the latter years of her life, Lucy enjoyed the companionship of Pete Gusman.
Her hobbies included gardening, listening to music, dancing away at Zumba, and baking and cooking for her family and friends. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her niece, Lisa (Victor) Alvarado, who was like a daughter to her, and their children, Jaime, Sergio, Estevan, and Andres, who she considered as grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters, and seven brothers.
Surviving are her sisters, Braulia Del Bosque of Beeville, Texas and Maria Gutierrez of Fort Worth, Texas.
Pallbearers: Jaime Farias, Sergio Farias, Jon Villarreal, Al Pacheco Martin Acosta, and Raymond Cavazos
Visitation at 11a.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Dobie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m., Holy Rosary at 10a.m., Mass at 11a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church in Mathis, Texas. Following interment to Cenizo Hill Cemetery,
