Margaret Sharlene Whitley

Margaret Sharlene Whitley (née Harper) passed away on July 8, 2022. She was 89 years old. Sharlene was born February 22, 1933 in Pratt, Kansas to Ernest and Clara Michael. She and her family moved to the coastal bend circa 1940, and she attended Corpus Christi and W. B. Ray High Schools.

She married Bob, her husband of 72 years, in San Diego, California in 1950 as he was preparing to deploy to Korea with the United States Marine Corps, and spent the remainder of her life as a dutiful and devoted wife, mother, and family matriarch.

She loved working in her garden and flower beds, caring for her pets, taking in stray cats, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and by a daughter, Robin Lane Jarvis of Hampton, Georgia. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Whitley of Portland, Texas and two siblings, Lee (Caroline) Harper of Fairfax, Virginia and Penny (Jim) Rutledge of Hood River, Oregon. She is also survived by three children: Robert Lee Whitley, Jr. of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Roxanna Lynn Whitley of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Randall Leroy (Pauline) Whitley of Grand Prairie, Texas. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and several cats.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, August 9, 2022 , and her ashes will be interred at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Cattery cat shelter.
