Richard Figueroa Garza

Mr. Richard Figueroa Garza was called home to be with our Lord on Friday, July 2, 2021.

Richard “La Paca” Garza was born born on December 4, 1958 in Mathis, Texas to Guadalupe and Amelia Garza. The family lived in Tahoka, Texas for a short time and eventually settled in Mathis. Richard was a graduate of Mathis High School class of 1977 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. Richard worked as a free-lance investigator and disability advocate. He will always be remembered for his generous nature and willingness to help others.

In 1977 Richard Garza met the love of his life Dr. Eloisa P. Garza in High School after he accidentally gave her the wrong graduation invitation. In December of 1981 Richard and Eloisa were married and continued to have a loving marriage of 39 years. Richard and Eloisa have three children - Nicholas, a teacher, Nicole an attorney, and Elizabeth a Technical Project Manager. In August of 2002, Richard received his first grandchild, Kaitlyn M. Garza, who recently graduated from the United States Marine Corps.

Richard was an absolute character - everywhere he went people knew him and he was the life of the party. There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for his friends or his family. Richard loved taking road- trips, watching movies, and talking on the phone with his loved ones. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was an original member of the Knights of Columbus, Mathis chapter. He was a great man with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Garza is preceded in death by his Parents; Brother, Rene Garza; and Sister, Norma Garza.

Left to cherish Mr. Garza's loving memory are his Wife, Dr. Eloisa P. Garza; Daughters, Nicole Garza (Jorge A.
