Richard Joseph Tyler

Richard Joseph Tyler was born on February 3, 1932 in Lancaster, Ohio to Mabel (Bordas) and Joseph Tyler and grew up 1 of 4 boys. He graduated from Lancaster High School and proudly served his country in Korea from 1950-1952 in the Army. He married Ruby Tyler who was pregnant with their first child while he served. Ruby and Richard had two sons, Randy and Kevin Tyler. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years and retired in 1988. Shortly after his retirement, he went to the Valley in Texas where his parents were and cared for his father until his last moments. This began the years of being Winter Texans with his wife Ruby. As Winter Texans, between Lancaster, Ohio and Texas, they went from the Valley to Rockport, TX and then to Aransas Pass, TX. After Ruby’s passing in 2002, Richard met Joan through their mutual friends, Ruby & Al Leos. Richard and Joan were married on Valentine’s Day 2005. Richard was with Joan and cared for her through his last days along with hospice care where he passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 18, 2023.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob and Tom Tyler, first wife Ruby Tyler, and son Randy Tyler. He is survived by his second wife Joan Tyler, son Kevin Tyler (Tina), youngest brother Philip Tyler, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard was a storyteller, proud of everything Ford, a friend to anybody, and the kindest soul to all who have been part of his life. The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice and Pavilion Assisted Living staff for the care and support given to Richard. He will lay to rest with Ruby Tyler in Lancaster, Ohio. A memorial will be held at a later date at the Pavilion Assisted Living Center.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Winsteads’ Funeral Home. (361) 643-6564 www.winsteadsfuneralhome.com
