Robert E. Hutchins

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bob, a beloved husband, dad, and Peepa, who peacefully went to be with his Savior on August 2, 2024. Born with a heart full of love and a spirit of service, Bob's life was a testament to faith, resilience, and joy.

An ordained minister, Bob’s compassion and commitment were the foundation of his ministry. His love of Scripture and of people led him to teach his adult Sunday School classes with a blend of humility and wisdom. Bob’s deep-seated belief in serving and loving his neighbors inspired him to volunteer with Samaritan's Purse and at the local nursing home.

Bob's vibrant personality shone through in every role he embraced. As an actor and a cheerleader, he brought energy and enthusiasm to the stage and the sidelines at University of Corpus Christi. He worked diligently at Gulf King Shrimp Company, yet his passions extended far beyond his professional life. A die-hard Wildcat football fan, Bob's love for sports was evident, especially when coaching baseball or playing basketball in the Senior Olympics, where he was a gold medalist in our hearts.

Music was the soundtrack of Bob's life. He cherished the Gaither Vocal Band and gospel music, delighted in Don Williams and bluegrass, and never missed a chance to sing a duet with Shirley, the love of his life. Much like his favorite musicians, Bob was a poet who would craft messages of encouragement for his loved ones.

Bob was a seasoned home baker, famously proclaiming himself a cranberry sauce expert. His culinary creations were a testament to his talent and his love for family traditions. Bob brought warmth and joy to each family gathering through his many cherished roles, including Christmas story reader, shrimp procurer, and cascarones smasher.

No matter what life threw at him, Bob defied the odds, surviving hurricanes, strokes, chainsaw mishaps, and rolling chair accidents with the resilience of a stuntman. His adventures and anecdotes will forever be legendary among those who knew him.

Bob's devotion to the family of God was unwavering. With the help of his beloved wife, Shirley, he cultivated friendships that spanned decades. Together, "Bob and Shirley" formed a dynamic duo whose loyalty and laughter touched many lives.

Bob would come alive with dramatic flair when telling stories, captivating everyone around him. In the spirit of embracing silliness to foster connections, Bob leaves behind a legacy of light and joy. His ability to make others smile and his genuine, heartfelt approach to life will be deeply missed.

Bob's memory will forever be cherished by his loving family, devoted friends, and all who were blessed to know him. His life was a beautiful journey of love, service, and joy. He now rests in peace, having run the race set before him with endurance, purpose, and grace.
