Robert McCoy

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Robert Adrian McCoy, known to most as Bobby and affectionately known as Honey, Dad, and Grandad, on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born in Sinton, Texas on October 4, 1953, to Adrian Harrison McCoy, Jr. and Myrtle Mary (Reynolds) McCoy. He lived in Portland, Texas until recently retiring on acreage in Beeville, Texas. He was a man of integrity and dedicated to his faith and his family. He was known for his quick wit, hard work, and his extreme passion for his family.

A devoted husband to his wife of 25 years, Cathy, Bobby was the bedrock and protector of the family. They enjoyed playing tennis together and working in the yard. They had a standing-Friday night dinner date spanning nearly three decades. You would often find Bobby and Cathy sitting in the stands or audience cheering for their kids and grandkids, riding around the ranch, and enjoying sunsets with a glass of wine. Bobby was a proud father who was dedicated to his children, Bobby [Jr.] and Tiana. Throughout their childhood, he always supported them and guided them to be their best—coaching their sports teams and being an active, loving father in all they did. Beyond coaching his own children, he made a lasting impact, as Coach McCoy, on the lives of so many other kids. He took the job of Grandad seriously, always ensuring each ref and ump knew the right call. His favorite color was the color of their team, and his favorite number was the one they were wearing. His presence in the stands was expected; no matter the distance, he made the drive. Each grandchild knew they were his favorite—truly. Bobby’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was—his faith and family being first. He also enjoyed the outdoors, such as hunting and fishing, and he was a business owner and entrepreneur, owning multiple businesses in the local area.

He is survived by his wife: Cathy McCoy; his children: Robert Adrian (Kellie) McCoy, II and Dr. Tiana (Matt) Pearce; his step-sons: Colt (Lyndsey) and Chance (Casey) Campbell; grandchildren: Kenzie, Kaden, and Karsen McCoy, and Mattilyn Pearce; step-grandchildren: Kenleigh, Andi, Jaxon, Stone, Crae, Atlee, and Callaway Campbell; siblings: Dr. Pat (Sandra) McCoy, Mike (Liz) McCoy, Mark (Vicki) McCoy, Dr. Camille McCoy, Melissa (Ron) Wheaton; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adrian Harrison (Harry) McCoy and Mary Myrtle McCoy and his step-son, Jerry Lance Campbell.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM, at Winsteads’ Funeral Home in Portland, TX. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM, Friday, April 4, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, TX. Interment will immediately follow at Palms Memorial Garden.
