Mrs. Rogelia Marez Pena went home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 26, 2023 surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 11, 1941 in Mathis, Texas to Leandro and Sara Marez. After graduating from Mathis High School, she followed her dream and pursued her degree in Nursing. Her devotion to caring for others as a nurse spanned over 50 years, with over 20 years working in the Intensive Care and Skilled Nursing settings. She would later finish her career caring for our beloved veterans and retire from the V.A. of Corpus Christi.
Mrs. Pena had many passions in her life, one of which was sewing. She would often spend her time after work making her own scrubs and also for others that knew of her talent to sew. She was able to design and create many for her coworkers and herself over the years. She also loved to dance. Often times you would see her dancing with the love of her life, her husband, Santiago “Jimmy” Pena. If there was music, you would find them in each others arms, dancing the night away.
After the passing of her husband, she dedicated her remaining years to caring for her family and especially her grandchildren. She would attend their school functions and sporting events regularly wherever they may be. She was their biggest fan. Mrs. Pena loved to tend to her garden as well. She would take care of her various plants and flowers daily as they were her other “children”. If she wasn’t at a school or sports function she was in her yard with her plants and tending to her flowers.
Mrs. Pena is preceded in death by her Parents, Leandro and Sara Marez; Husband, Santiago “Jimmy” Pena; Sister, Teresa Pumarejo.
Left to cherish her memory are her Son, Michael (Honey) Pena; Daughter, Sarah Michelle (Marco) Chavez; Sister, Elia (Lupe) Vasquez; Brothers, Leandro ( Bunny) Marez, Eloy Marez, Jim Marez; and Nine Grandchildren; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
