Romerica Gallion

Romerica Villiva Gallion, age 89, passed away August 3, 2024. Romerica was born on October 21, 1934 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Nazarreno and Alice Villiva. 

The family moved to Aransas Pass, Texas where she started working at the age of thirteen at the Rialto & Rex Theaters to help her family. She later worked at Commercial Motors. Romerica graduated from Aransas Pass High School. While in High school, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Portland, Texas, where she served many snow cones during Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and reading. She was a wealth of information, and her sister-in-law referred her as OnStar because she knew she could call her for help. She loved spending time with her family and had cooked many meals for family gatherings. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and her husband of 68 years Elery Gallion. She is survived by two daughters, Marcella (Jack) Wright and Sheila (Jeff) Pyatte. She is also survived by four grandchildren Jeremy (Angela) Pyatte, Andrea (Jim) Weekley, Jared (Sarah) Pyatte, and Tracy (Callie) Wright; and seven great-grandchildren Anthony, Holden, Marina, Ellie, Lillian, Bowen and Audrey; and one brother and two sisters. 

The family of Romerica Gallion would like to thank the staff of Pavilion Assisted Living and Harbor Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. A special thank you to Katelin and Misty at the Pavilion and to Lee of Harbor Hospice. 

Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Winsteads’ Funeral Home in Portland with the service to begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pavilion Assisted Living, Portland, Texas or Harbor Hospice, Rockport, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Jack Wright, Jeff Pyatte, Jeremy Pyatte, Jared Pyatte, Tracy Wright, Anthony Harris, Holden Pyatte and Bowen Pyatte.
