Rosario Salazar

Rosario Salazar passed away May 20, 2014 at the age of 73. She was born on March 9, 1941, to Ignacio Salazar and Francisca Ortegon Salazar. She was preceded in death by her parents Ignacio and Francisca Ortegon Salazar and her grandparents Antonio Salazar and Anastacia Salazar.  She is survived by her brother Antonio (Anita) Salazar, and sister Maria S. Mijares. She is also a beloved aunt of her nieces and nephews.  She is survived by nieces Aida (Richard) Taylor, Sylvia (Ramiro) Gonzalez), Rosa Lydia (Elias) Martinez; nephews Arnulfo Salazar, Gerald James (Lucy) Mijares, Luis (Yolanda) Taylor; grandnieces Melinda Woodruff, Adriana Woodruff, Gabriella Hernandez, Haley Haffey, Courtney Haffey, and Mia Alisse Mijares; grandnephews Ramiro Gonzalez, III. Jonathon Gonzalez, Anthony Salazar, Rene Solis, and Aaron Taylor.

          Rosario earned a Bachelor of Science and worked as a school teacher at Gregory-Portland High School for thirty-three years. She later worked for four years at Central Catholic Elementary. After she retired, she loved and was very dedicated to working in the different staff positions in the church such assistant to the DRE assistant.  She also worked at Mother Teresa Homeless Shelter under Sister Rose, a good friend.  She was quite active in the Catholic Daughters Organization as Regent for four years and District Deputy for three years. This was a very dear organization for her.  She always missed the friendships and the spirituality offered by this organization. She was always active in community activities and she served in the City Council of Gregory and the School board of the Gregory Portland Independent School District. She was a truly dedicated person to every organization she joined, and she will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 pm, Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory. Interment to follow at the Gregory Cemetery.
