Sara passed away December 22, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX on February 6, 1928. On April 15, 1950, she wed Jose M Posas, married for 66 years before he passed, raising four children together. Sara was a very devoted wife and mother. After her children were grown, she worked for Reynolds Metals in Gregory, TX then as a realtor and retired in Portland, TX.
In her young twenties while living with her family in Three Rivers, TX, she was instrumental in having her brother-in-law, Felix Longoria, a decorated soldier, buried at the National Cemetery in Arlington, VA after they would not bury him in his hometown of Three Rivers because of discrimination, even though he fought in WWII. She was a speaker in the documentary “The Longoria Affair.” She believed in always doing the right thing.
She was truly a humble and devoted servant of God in her own way. Her loving manner and sincere attitude to help people shone through everything she did. People she met were not strangers for long. She would donate blankets and whatever she could to families in need, whether new to the community or simply going through a rough patch
One of her loves, was travelling and experiencing new things. We used to call her “Have ticket will travel” She was excited to go on some trips with the choir she sang with at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and through Del Mar College. She learned to play the piano at 65 because she loved music and “you are never too old to learn.” She also liked to teach and share traditions with family and friends such as having Posadas, making tamales and tortillas, among other things. She enjoyed singing, cooking, crocheting, and swimming. Sara was a wonderful listener for all.
Sara was involved in the Cursillo Movement of the Catholic Church (three-day active renewal) for 25 years, and the Prison Ministry for 18 years. She also volunteered at a few nursing homes. She was an instrumental founding and charter member of the Guadalupanas in Portland, TX at OLMC in 1984. She did many services through the group and helped it grow. In Portland, you could see her frequently at weekday morning services at church.
She is preceded in death by her father, Pilar Moreno and her mother, Maria Jesusa Moreno, her husband, Jose Montalvo Posas, her daughter, Teresa Ann Posas, her brothers Vicente, Antonio, Gilbert, and Ruben Moreno; and sisters Lucia Galan, Carolina Hernandez, Louisa Martinez, Elisa Lopez, Beatrice Longoria, and Socorro Davila. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Isam (Dallas, TX), her two sons David Posas, and Mario Posas, her brother Juventino Moreno (AZ) and her sister, Margaret Harris (FL). She is also survived by her numerous great-grandchildren, grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Tuesday January 2, 2024, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Portland, TX with a rosary promptly at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church followed by interment service at 11:00am at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, TX.
