Yolanda Alvarado

On the evening of May 21, 2016; Yolanda Alvarado passed on to be with The Lord at the age of 79. She was born in Concepcion, TX to Elivira and Adolofo Sandoval. Her siblings were Juan Manuel Sandoval, David Sandoval, Bertha Guidy, Omar Sandoval, and Hector Sandoval. She graduated from Benavidas High Shcool in 1955.  After graduation, she left home to seek a new life and a job in Corpus Christ, TX. She worked 10 years at Kress & Co; before marrying the love of her life Manuel Alvarado Jr; from Donna, TX. After a short stay in Donna, TX; they moved to Portland, TX to open a small plant nursery named Tropical Nursery which was in business for 32 years. After closing the nursery they moved to the Valley and settled on a 20 acres parcel of land outside San Benito. They started a new venture, a wholesale plant business named Banana Republic Plantation.  After 8 years of business, they moved back to Portland, TX to retire and enjoy their eight grandchildren. Their four children, Manuel Alvarado, Albert Alvarado, Sonia Rocha, and Arturo Alvarado, are blessed to have a loving, caring and strong mother. 

The family celebrated Yolanda and Manuel's 50th Anniversary on April 18, 2016.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland.
